I just don't find any sadness in the blues... I get a happy feeling when I hear a guitar tuning up. - Etta Baker, quoted in Woman With Guitar: Memphis Minnie's Blues by Paul and Beth Garon

I know that you had one, Slack, so you don't need to see what it looked like. For others, scroll down this page (the whole article is about Lemon): http://bluesdfw.com/sub1/blj.htm

You're welcome, maturest, and I absolutely couldn't do it without all of the help I've received.

Thanks very much for the help, Blues Vintage and banjochris. The line-by-line was super helpful, Chris. Musically, Guitar Shorty strikes me as a sort of East Coast version of Smoky Babe. Both players had tremendous rhythmic drive and an ability to come up with lyrics on the fly--I think Smoky Babe's "Hottest Brand Goin'" has a very similar feel to "Workin' Hard" though in "Hottest Brand Goin'" Smoky Babe is bragging about his workplace rather than registering a complaint.

Hi Eric, It's a 4-disc set. The first two discs have all of Fuller's remaining titles that were not included on the JSP "Blind Boy Fuller, Vol. 1" set, which was also not exclusively Fuller tracks. The third and fourth discs of Fuller, Vol. 2 have all of the early tracks of Cedar Creek Sheik, Roosevelt Antrim, Virgil Childers, Sonny Jones, Floyd Council, Willie Trice, Rich Trice, Frank Edwards and Dennis McMillon. I think it's one of the very best JSP sets. All best, Johnm

No, kinda weird compilation from JSP. Bluesmen playing sort of in the syle of Fuller maybe. There are no photos of either The Sheik or Jones that I know of.

Is it still possible to buy a Lemon Jefferson license plate in Texas? I don't think so Lindy, I do not see it listed anywhere and the Texas Music Foundation has another plate they rep. I'm sure it was not a big seller, although very cool. After a few years, they sent me a duplicate set of plates - I assume because they were no longer going to make them.

Speaking for myself, I can't read the article unless I pay for it.
