Willie Brown stuff in the Frog Annual 3
« on: November 07, 2013, 12:15:26 PM »
So..............does anyone have any thoughts about the Willie Brown piece in the frog blues & jazz annual no. 3?  Reading old posts on Willie I have noticed more than a drop of passion when debating "old Cat" as Elizabeth Moore called him.

Willie Brown "probably" never imagined that people would still be loving his music, debating his life, writing articles, and offering crazy rewards for finding his lost records.

According to the "Endpiece" in Number 3, the Willie Brown article got bumped to Number 4 due to space issues.

The good news is that Number 4 is promised in less than a year.

The Willie Brown article will not be in Frog 4. Instead it will be published in early winter by Living Blues magazine in the USA. It will be a long two part article on Brown and also briefly discuss the THREE Browns to add background for new readers. So we will let you know when it will be published.
Also my co-editor Ed Komara has completed retyping  all of the Patton book by myself and Calt into a word processor. He will start doing some revisions and moving some chapters around for better reading. Then we will submit it to a major publisher.
Do not spend a large amount of money for a used copy on Amazon or other resell sites. Only 3,000 copies were printed and it is scare. But there will be a new edition. gayle dean wardlow

That is great news Mr GDW. Keeping my fingers crossed for a great book deal to get my favorite account of the early Delta blues back on the shelves.

No kidding! That is exciting. I've never read the book and have always wanted it. I'm looking forward to getting my signed copy! :)

That is wonderful news. Mr. Wardlow.
It took me a very long time to track down my prized copy of the original run, it'll be great to have a revised edition that I can compare with the original and dare/afford to make notes in. Looking forward to seeing it in its new print edition.
All the best of luck with the project.

I trust that y'all have picked up on the facts that WILLIAM BROWN who Alan Lomax recorded, along with Willie "61" Blackwell, playing what Alan entitled "Mississippi Blues" [an absolute gem of a recording] across the river in Arkansas [@Sadie Beck's Plantation] after being run out of town by the Memphis cops was a.) a tall individual, and b.) a left-handed one. Stefan Grossman found that latter item VERY interesting from a guitarist's perspective. Do not know if he re-stringed or just turned it over. I've mentioned this to folks from time to time since working with Alan, including here, at the LofC some years ago; I, too, along with Stefan, find the left-handedness an interesting fact.
