« on: April 23, 2011, 02:42:08 PM »
Hi all,

Just thought I'd share a link to my version of RL Burnside's "Poor Black Mattie". I'd like to hear any comments, good and bad. Feel free to leave a comment here or on the youtube page. I'm also going to put up a lesson soon on playing in that specific style, if you have any interest let me know and I'll send you the link!

Thanks for watching,
Yazan

Nice. You really got that driving Burnside rhythum down. I have never seen that type of picking I can't wait to try it myself.

great, never been a big fan of R.L Burnside but I really enjoyed this. As mentioned by Eltee, you have a very unusual picking style. Look forward to more videos, BTW welcome to Weenie Campbell

Yeah I'm a huge fan of his and you did a marvelous job with both guitar and vocals. I completely enjoyed that and glad I clicked...

Thanks everyone for the kind words. If you've never liked RL Burnside, I'd say trying listening to his First Recordings record (if you haven't already), it's among my favorites. The guitar is an old Gibson guitar (1930s) that I got set up left-handed. It's hard finding good old lefties!

Great job Yazan, I think that is the most faithful version of Black Matte I've heard.  Great driving rhythm and vocals.  Welcome to WC.

Great driving version.

I think your interesting picking style is partially down to those l - o - n - g fingers.

Thanks for the comments and the warm welcome, I'm hoping to share some more videos soon... I started playing country blues songs in the past year or so, and have been writing tunes for a record as well. I also did another RL Burnside tune ("Poor Boy") a while back, in case you're interested:

Thanks for listening,
Yazan

PS My fingers are a pretty normal length, I just make do with what I have :)

Very cool Yazan.  I'm interested in the style, so please send me the link to your lesson.

One suggestion.   You should end your videos, not by leaping from your chair, but by staring intently into the camera. Much more dramatic.  :D
