The Bachelor Blues with Carla Funk
« on: April 04, 2011, 01:21:15 PM »
This is Byrd Moore's Bachelor Blues with a little comic interest.  I've had this one in my head for a while now but finally go the equipment, props, and time to pull it together.  Sure hope that you don't have to cry yourself to sleep tonight!

Okay I might have some bad dreams from the wig shots, lol, but that was pretty darn amazing! Kept me glued to the screen and speakers the whole time. Some damn fine pickin' too.

Hey LittleBrother, nice to hear from you again.  Hope all is well in Hotlanta and with you.  Yeah, I had a lot of fun with this one....you know, I'm thinking, it takes how many years to be able to play the guitar like this, and then, on top of that, if you want to put out something nice, you have to learn a little video tech, editing, codecs, sound etc....dang it's a lot to do!  But I wouldn't trade it for nothing....I'm having a blast.  I'm sorry if I freaked you out with that wig, man, I know, that chick sure is ugly....but she sure can cook, bro!

Well that was a hoot!
And a great song I'd never heard.
Well worth all the time it's taken you to get there!

Thanks,

Hey thanks, thanks to all!!  Toby, I sure have appreciated your fine videos and guitar work....along with Mike Dowling, it's sure some of the best stuff that I've seen.  I hope to catch you live sometime....

I guess this is all about keeping the blues alive.  It sure is a fun occupation and nothing that I'd rather do.  The blues are so powerful.  I read recently in keith Richard's autobiography that when they first went to Chess Records in Chicago, Muddy Waters was painting the place.  Afterwards, with the attention that the Stones brought, Muddy and a lot of these guys started getting work again.  So there....I guess us white boys have place in this story after all, I'm proud to play my little part....and friggin' shuck and jive some....man, if we can't laugh here in this life, what the heck is all about, anyway?

Carlos, you should read The Life and Times of Muddy Waters "Can't Be Satisfied" by Robert Gordon (a far more interesting read than a collection of fairy tales by a junk).

The Muddy Waters "painting the ceiling story" is recounted on page 189, I quote :

"That's some kind of Keith's fantasy, and I tease him about that," said Marshall Chess, who remembered the Stones "drinking straight whiskey out of bottles," which helps account for the differing memories. "If you knew Muddy Waters, he wasn't in there painting the wall.  Muddy always dressed sharp as a tack.  He wasn' about to be getting no paint spots on his Stetsong shoes or his custom-made suit."  (Several Chess employees find the painting story difficult to believe; one said : "Leonard would be the first one to say, 'get your ass down, I don't want you falling off those damn ladders'")

so far the quote.

Muddy always had plenty of work and didn't need the attention of the Stones to get by.  It is true that in the seventies when he started to use white musicians in his band and thanks to the help of producer Johnny Winter, he became more acceptable to the mainstream music scene and started to make more and better money but that was way beyond the Stones 1964 visit to Chicago.
I really hate those dumb rock stars who claim to have "saved the blues".

Well, I like the Rolling Stones and I can't remember listening to any blues before them, so I guess it worked for me, anyway.  If it wasn't them, then it was the Lovin' Spoonful, the Youngbloods, Clapton (Cream), or maybe Canned Heat or Bloomfield, or even John Mayall....not too many black guys located in any of those groups.  But I think the Stones predate them, and according to his "fairytale", that's all they really wanted to be in the beginning, a blues band, and he describes a some kind of "social force" that was more or less totally beyond them, that almost didn't matter what they were doing...the youth were just going nuts for it.  So, I personally have to give some credit for my love of the blues to all the aforementioned white boys.....just the way it happened.

And, I had a friend who stayed at my place here recently who is a huge blues fan, and he told me the story about his mother growing up in Beaumont Texas during the time that Blind Willie Johnson was playing on the streets there and has no recollection whatever of him or anything similar....other side of the tracks, I guess.  And my mother never heard any of the black music of the time....and still I think generally Europeans are more hip to the blues than Americans....and on and on.  I think it's evolved....where it started isn't necessarily where it's gonna end.
