During his visit, [John] Fahey succeeded in greatly impressing me by picking out an old blues by Little Hat Jones, and demonstrating Charley Patton's masterpiece. 'Down the Dirt Road', which I subsequently set about copying.  In my 19-year-old neophyte's eyes, any guitarist who could approximate a vintage blues accompaniment was a virtuoso; onlu six or seven players in the entire country applied themselves to such pieces. - Stephen Calt on the state of blues guitar in the early 1960s, from A Fahey Memoir (unpublished)

I didn't like him, and he didn't like me. - John Fahey on rediscovering Skip James

Dock Boggs and John Hurt collaborated on one piece for their New York audience: the evening's final tune, "Banjo Clog," featured banjo by Boggs and clog dancing by Hurt. The two then parted ways and pursued their new recording a performing careers. - Peter K. Siegel, The Friends of Old Time Music

I said, "You think them blues ain't on this banjo neck the same as they are on that guitar?" I said, "They're just as much on this banjo neck the same as they are on that guitar or piano or anywhere else, if you know where to go get it." - Dock Boggs recalls his response to musicians who wanted him to sit out while they played a blues, Interviews with Dock Boggs FW 05458

Well it's 2012 already so if you have a good quote, from any source (try to provide some provenance, if you have it, we're always  interested), feel free to start the 2012 quotes thread. The only challenge is thinking up a good new tag line for the year.
