So they get part of the tune. Then they flag it and get frustrated. Damn, be happy! You got part of the tune. That doesn't stop you... it's not being complacent, it's being realistic. You can't just go through every CD you have and every tune that you like say 'Why can't I play that?' Or 'Why can't I play it as well as that?' - Jerry Ricks, Port Townsend 97

I've got so many women, that I don't care when one dies - Leroy Carr, Good Woman Blues

This was probably the first blues verse that caught my attention - it was on an fantastic compilation http://www.allmusic.com/album/r1247827, that I would listen to in the car as a kid - they really ought have put an age restriction on it though

[edit: Rivers corrected the link, it had a comma in it which caused it not to work]

*** Updated ***

It's been awhile since the Quote Oracle was updated with newly gathered utterances, but I've just added all of 2010 (!) and 2011 to date. Thanks for keepin' them coming.

A minor request, if you could leave all line breaks out of your quotations and attributions, that would be great and save editing work. A quote can't have any hard returns or it don't work in the Oracle.

So the format should be:

Witty quote goes here - Sir Winston Churchill, "Drop Down Mama"

(If you're starting a separate paragraph to comment on the quote etc., that's fine.)

Lotta these tunes aren't on the records...I just never had the nerve to bother someone in their own home with some of this stuff.

It occurs to me that may be a correlation to papa's not coming home and what happens to him when he does come late.
All best,

"It can be argued that Chess is the Robert Johnson of record labels: over-emphasized and sometimes over-hyped, endlessly recycled, barnacled with legends and namechecked by ignorati anxious to establish their cred. And yet ? also like Robert Johnson ? in an active life that was fairly short, Chess produced music of vast artistic and historical importance." ? Chris Smith

Hundreds of 'race' singers have flooded the market with what is generally regarded as the worst contribution to the cause of good music ever inflicted on the public. The lyrics of a great many of these 'blues' are worse than the lowest sort of doggerel. - Talking Machine Journal, February 1924

(plucked from Stephen Calt's Barrelhouse Words.)
