This here number was sung way back yonder. My grandmother sung it, my grandmother's mother sung it, my mother's grandmother's mother's mother's grandmother sung it. Way back yonder, 500 years old. - Rev. Gary Davis introduces Children of Zion, From Blues to Gospel

New Ernie Hawkins CD out
« on: August 30, 2010, 01:29:31 PM »
I just received Ernie's new CD 'Whinin' Boy' in the mail today. Ernie's playing with a tasty backup group of washboard, bass, clarinet, harmonica, trombone, tuba, and trumpet. I've only listened through once, so not quite enough for a full-blown review yet, but just had to spread the news. The arrangements are just great. Some of the cuts: "Makin' Whoopie," "Basin Street Blues," Blue Skies," "There is a Table in Heaven." Check it out if you can.

The song selection, the arraingments, the playing.... NICE.
One song w/ Ernie on ukelele as well.
Like a walk down Bouboun Street (without getting your feet wet).
I smell a Grammy
