Del played tougher than a boiled owl, and I still pity the fool what's got to follow her on to the stage. She sang prettier than many a woman with a guitar known primarily for their voice. Her original instrumental, Wobbly Walk, inspired by chapters 16-18 (Debbs and Socialism) of Howard Zinn's classic People's History of the United States is a hoot and conjures up a Chaplanesque Bo of old, IWW card fresh in hand, struttin' his stuff - Mr O'Muck review, Opera House gig somewhere off the mainland, Maine, USA

It's on !!!! Weenie UK weekend - Saturday 4 April 2009
« on: January 30, 2009, 10:08:01 AM »
I have put this on new thread to hopefully attract some attention as we need some instant reaction!

I have just spoken with the Crown Hotel, Lyndhurst, New Forest and they can do us a suitable room for the day\evening for ?100.

It being a hotel there are rooms available at ?105 for a single occupancy and ?135 for two people - those are B&B room prices......

Or you can stay at Natterjack's, Bunker Hill's, Norfolk Slim's folks et al... the list is endless  ;D

Personally I am inclnided to go for it and have to let them know late Monday afternoon..............so  what do we do  ??? ??? ???

And, there is wedding on the same weekend (isn't there always!) so we might even get gig out of it  :-X

Right, I am allowed to go   :P  so that probably puts the kiss of death on the whole event  >:D

I will confirm with the hotel on Monday, book my room and then confirm with apost here that all is well, so after that weenies start booking your rooms or wherever you are going stay.

My thanks to Bluehome for helping on this one.

Hopefully will be OK for me as well.  I've chased up Marshcat and Rick218.

Do I have to learn a fourth chord for the event??

Its worth pointing out that there a a number of other local hotels with cheaper accomodation- and its not a desperately big place, so you should find somewhere in walking distance if the Crown's room rates seem steep.

The Crown seem to do single rooms for ?75 as well...

Richard- are we planning just the one night?

NS good point. I think that was what had been assumed and not decided so to speak, due probably as this has been put together by a long distance commiitteeee!

So....... errr I dunno, I don't mind two nights, what grabs you lot... any chance of some opinions before I ring the hotel tomorrow ??? I will sound them out for the extra night anyway, but it would be nice to say we definitely wanted it..... mmmhhh???

My vote would be for the same schedule as Guernsey: Fri night, Sat  all day and, maybe Sunday morning?

I dont mind really.

I suspect for those travelling, 2 nights makes more sense?  That said first night could be just gathering, food beer, and something pretty casual- with the room available and performances on the second?  Dunno....

The problem with this venue is that we have to pay for the room when we want it, unlike Guernsey where it was available on tap for free anytime over the weekend.

I will see what they say tomorrow afternoon, but having the two nights does make  sense.

Always thinking of arriving Friday.

If we want a social gathering then it would be very easy. As NS says, its a small place, you can walk round the centre in about 5 minutes & there are the usual selection of restaurants. I'll check with Bob Long what's good in terms of pubs and eateries, he lives there. Also my son lives just up the road and I'm due to visit in the next couple of weeks so I'll have a closer look round myself.

I don't think we ever achieved much on the Sunday morning, I would recommend a bit of site seeing in the New Forest as the best way to spend that time.

Prof.S.& anyone else on public transport. You can get a train to Brockenhurst, about 5 miles away, and one of us will be happy to pick you up.
