This is one superb collection. It took Sam Charters until 1975 to release the session but when did it was not only blues fans who rejoiced, so did Max Jones of the weekly pop paper Melody Maker who made it his blues "record of the month".

Various Artists - Texas Blues (1927 - 1939)

This is the Catfish CD KATCD181 Texas Blues, now out of print but still available in places, which has many of the usual Texas suspects but also has Texas Alexander with Little Hat Jones backing him up on a couple tracks, plus lesser knowns like the Dallas Jamboree Jug Band, Black Boy Shine, Blind Norris, Robert Cooper, Joe Pullum, sound effects singer Biliken Johnson, Gene Campbell, Black Ivory King, Eddie and Oscar (being Oscar Woods and Ed Chafer), and a great tune from Hattie Burleson.

Agree about the JD Short. Holy moly.

Hi John D.,
Where did you get the Doug Quattlebaum?  Is it readily available?
All best,

Hi John,

Yes, the CD is available on Amazon (probably other places too, but many copies, new and used, are available from Amazon third party's for very cheap  - starting at 3-4 bucks)

Cheers,

Paul Rishell - Blues On A Holiday (Solo Set)

Paul Rishell & Annie Raines - Goin' Home (Selected Tracks)

Not sure how many years Paul and Annie have been together now (5,6,7?) but they have evolved into one of the top flight Country Blues duos - absolutely terrific.
