You're here to learn to play the whole guitar, not half the guitar. Take that capo off. Throw it away - Larry Johnson, Port Townsend 98

If I see him I'm gonna beat him, gonna kick and bite him too, gonna take my Wade & Butcher, gonna cut him two in two - Bessie Smith, Hateful Blues, 1924 Just wondering if there's any way we can see all the quotes, so as to check whether you already got 'em?
Take it slow and easy, if you want to get along with me. - Jesse Fuller, Slow and Easy Blues.
Just wondering if there's any way we can see all the quotes, so as to check whether you already got 'em? Sorry for the delay in response, NJ, there's been a lot of activity to deal with in the revival of the Juke. To answer your question, I don't know for sure, but there should be, and we'll look into it. Likeliest solution to my mind is to have a file on Weeniepedia. IMHO the quotes only work because you never know what you're gonna get, so I'm opposed to publishing them en masse. Not only the lost element of surprise, anyone would be able to grab them and use them on their websites. A lot of time, typing and quality control has gone into it.
The current collection represents 10 years of work by dozens of weenies, and you'd have to agree it helps WC to differentiate itself from other websites. I always skip any dupes when updating the list. It's pretty amazing a) how few dupes get posted and b) that I know immediately if it's already there. Sorry to be an old school curmudgeon about this, in these days of 'open this', 'open that', but I'm opposed to releasing them en masse. Said when I die, don't bury me at all;
just pickle my body... up in alcohol. —John Byrd (1930) boots
I agree that we don't want to be giving away such a valuable resource.
Mike, Clarence "Tom" Ashley, an Old-Timey musician, used the same line in his "Rude And Rambling Man". =)
"We wanted to play the blues, so we got some stuff we recorded that's almost a blues and it's almost a waltz -- which I think would be nice for y'all to learn about... Don't ever say 'I can't do something because I don't have this...' I learned to play fiddle on a cigar box..." -- Canray Fontenot
Yes, I've come across that White quote, too. However, all that remains of Walker's work is two takes of "South Carolina Rag" and "Betty & Dupree", right?
Well she shakes like the Central and she wobbles like the L&N.. well she's a hot-shot mama and I'm scared to tell her where I been - Blind Willie McTell, Scarey Day Blues
