There was a time when music knew its place. No longer. Possibly this is not music's fault. It may be that music fell in with a bad crowd and lost its sense of common decency - Fran Lebowitz, "The Sound of Music: Enough Already"

Sat. Sept. 8, Del Rey & Suzy Thompson, Berkeley

For those in the San Francisco Bay Area:
Sat. Sept. 8, Del Rey & Suzy Thompson (with Eric Thompson) at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, show starts at 8 P.M.
If you like your blues warm, wise, witty, womanly, and well-played, this is the show for you!
Del and Suzy  channel the spirits of Memphis Minnie and Bessie Smith and other blues icons, writing original material and digging up obscure gems from the 1920s and 30s, including some wonderfully silly blues duets.  Del Rey packs a whole orchestra into her resonator guitar (and her resonator ukulele!) with a thoroughly hip Left Coast sense of cool, and Suzy Thompson is famed for her emotionally-charged blues fiddling and vocals.  The two have collaborated on recordings and performances for nearly 20 yars. Suzy plays fiddle on almost every Del Rey album released since 1990, Del appears on both of Suzy?s recent solo projects, and both have worked with blues diva Maria Muldaur and many other roots music icons.

Hope to see some of you Weenies there!  I'm still floating from the experience of being onstage with so many of my all-time musical heroes at the jug band concert.
