Offensive SPAM
« on: November 22, 2006, 08:12:58 AM »
Folks, we got hit pretty hard last night with some porno spam - every message board was hit and also at least one (and I'm sure lots) of folks got a Personal Message with this porno spam.  So, I apologize for this.  It is an ongoing battle and we do battle back by banning IP adresses, Domain Name, email address etc. and generally try to keep an eye on the site.

We have temporarily switched to manual approval of memberships to try and combat the spam and we may decide to take some other tightening up measures - but I'll keep you posted.

Ah, the pleasures of running a public website.  :(

Thanks,
slack

Just adding my thanks for all your efforts on our behalf, as Steve mentioned. I would imagine that while we benefit from 150% of your efforts, we are only aware of a much smaller percentage of all of the hard work that you put into the site.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Yeah that was obnoxious.  We have a laptop right in the living room, luckily none of the kids were sitting next to me when I opened that POS.  Thanks Slack for your vigilence.

We're still getting some attacks but have caught them early. Slack is indisposed for a day or so, too much deep-fried turkey no doubt. If anyone sees more spam show up, feel free to PM me, as a notification is sent to my email. I'll be monitoring the forum, but can't watch every minute.

Checking in  :)  I've made another config change -- let's see if that helps.

Yup, and Stephen Harper's recognizing Quebecers, plus it's -40C below in Cal-gary in November.  Next up, locusts and a renewal of the gun registry...
