Hi all,
For "She Moves It Just Right", Barbecue Bob was playing out of G position in standard tuning, asking himself with a vigorous boom-a-chang-a rhythm.  The lyrics do an admirable job of staying on message.  Here is "She Moves It Just Right":

INTRO

REFRAIN: Ah, she moves it just right, ah, she moves it just right
Oh, everybody crazy 'cause she moves it just right

She not too tall, she not too low, you get a little taste, you'll want a little more
REFRAIN: 'Cause she moves it just right, ah, she moves it just right
Well we're gonna have a good time, baby, 'cause she moves it just right

REFRAIN: Ah, she moved it just right, ah, she moved it just right
Run everybody crazy 'cause she moved it just right

It's not too low, just in sight, it's good like that 'cause she moves it just right
REFRAIN: She moves it just right, ah, she moves it just right
I'm here to tell you, baby, she moves it just right

She not a high yella, she hot a low black, you meet her once, you bound to come back
REFRAIN: 'Cause she move it just right, ah, she move it just right
Now we're gonna have a good time, baby, 'cause she moves it just right

I met this gal way down in Dixie land, she might've got a lesson from the gum machine man
REFRAIN: 'Cause she move it just right, ah, she move it just right
Everybody crazy, 'cause she move it just right

I pass her way, night before last, she was movin' that thing and movin' it fast
REFRAIN: She move it just right, ah, she move it just right
It'll run you crazy, 'cause she move it just right

REFRAIN: Ah, she move it just right, ah, she movin' just right
Got me jumpin' and a-holl'in',  'cause she moves it just right

She's not a bad girl, she don't say much, when it comes to lovin', she got a wonderful touch
REFRAIN: 'Cause she moves just right, ah, she moves it just right
It'll run you crazy, 'cause she move it just right

If you wanna see her, stop by my way, I goes down there most every day
REFRAIN: And she moves it just right, ah, she move it just right
I think I'm goin' crazy, 'cause she move it just right

REFRAIN: Ah, she move it just right, ah, she move it just right
Now we're gonna have a good time, baby, 'cause she move it just right

She got Elgin movement, automatic works, gonna get some more, if it takes my neck
REFRAIN: 'Cause she move it just right, ah, she move it just right
Ah, make you crazy, 'cause she move it just right

All best,
Johnm

Hi all,
Another later Barbecue Bob track is "Doin' The Scraunch", for which he returned to Spanish tuning.  He pronounces the dance name in the title "scrunch", which also makes sense with how the dance is described in the lyrics.  Whenever I hear songs speaking of a dance craze, I always wonder if there really was such a craze, or if the song was an attempt to start one.  Here is "Doin' The Scraunch":

Down in Vicksburg we have a dance that new, ain't much to it, it easy to do
REFRAIN: Called doin' that scrunch, ah, doin' that scrunch
You have to wiggle and wobble it, honey, when you do the scrunch

You wiggles and you wobble it and you move it around, ball the jack, and you go to town
REFRAIN: And do that scrunch, ah, you do that scrunch
Ah, you shake it and wiggle it, honey, when you do that scrunch

I know a gal by name of Lizzie Brown, she do that scrunch, she's the best in town
REFRAIN: When she dos that scrunch, ah, she do that scrunch
She's a high-steppin' mama, when she do that scrunch

She steps so fast and she steps so light, find her doin' that scrunch on the Saturday night
REFRAIN: When she dos that scrunch, ah, she dos that scrunch
She's a red hot mama, oh, how she do that scrunch

GUITAR INTERLUDE

My little gal don't know what scrunchin' means, showed her once, now she's the scrunchin' queen
REFRAIN: Ah, she dos that scrunch, ah, she dos that scrunch
She's a red hot mama, when she do the scrunch

Grandmama and Grandpapa, the age of eighty-three, they the best scrunchers you ever see
REFRAIN: Oh, they do a good scrunch, when they do that scrunch
Oh, it's all in, people, ah, how they do that scrunch

Down on the levee in New Orleans, find the best scrunchers the world ever seen
REFRAIN: When they do the good scrunch, ah, they do the good scrunch
In the moonlight, rollin', ah, how they do that scrunch

GUITAR INTERLUDE

Got the right step, you move it just right, you do that scrunch and it just too tight
REFRAIN: When you do that scrunch, oh, you do that scrunch
You wiggle and wobble it, when you do that scrunch

GUITAR INTERLUDE

I got a gal by name of Blind Lemon Mett, do that scrunch, it's good like that
REFRAIN: When she do that scrunch, ah, she do that scrunch
She wiggle and shake it, when she do that scrunch

OUTRO

All best,
Johnm

Hi all,
For "Monkey And The Baboon", Barbecue Bob was playing in Spanish tuning, capoed way up.  I have a soft spot for song lyrics in which animals speak.  This song is a sort of precursor of Oscar Brown, Jr.'s "Signifyin' Monkey".  The monkey and baboon appear to have had a tempestuous relationship.  I'd very much appreciate help with the end of the first line of the seventh verse, in the bent brackets.  Here is "Monkey And The Baboon":

REFRAIN: Monkey doo-doo, monkey doodle-doo
You try to make a monkey out of me, I'll make a baboon out of you

Monkey and the baboon, playin' hide-and-seek.  Monkey told the baboon, "You sure is cheap."
Baboon jumped on the monkey's back, he sit right on a little sharp tack
REFRAIN: Monkey doodle-doo, monkey doo-doo
You try to make a monkey out of me, I'll make a baboon out of you

Monkey and baboon, dancin' all around, monkey called the baboon a sad-mouthed clown
Baboon said, "You ought to be ashamed, monkey called me them ugly names.", now
REFRAIN: Monkeys doodle-doo, monkeys doodle-doo
You try to make a monkey out of me, I'll make a baboon out of you

Monkey and baboon, playin' in the grass.  Monkey told the baboon, "You play too fast."
He grabbed a stick, hit him 'cross the head, now the little monkey is sick in bed
REFRAIN: Monkey doodle-doo, monkeys doodle-doo
You try to make a monkey out of me, I'll make a baboon out of you

Monkey and the baboon, shootin' crooked dice.  Monkey throwed a seven and eleven, twice
Baboon grabbed a switch, swung it fast, slapped the little monkey out in the grass
REFRAIN: Monkeys doodle,-doo, monkeys doodle-doo
You try to make a monkey out of me, I'll make a baboon out of you

REFRAIN: Monkeys doodle-doo, monkeys doodle-doo
You try to make a monkey out of me, I'll make a baboon out of you

Monkey and the baboon, settin' on the fence, monkey called the baboon, tried to head his class
Baboon sent him back, in his class, slapped the little monkey on his yas-yas-yas
REFRAIN: Monkey doodle-doo, monkeys doodle-doo
You try to make a monkey out of me, I'll make a baboon out of you

Monkey and the baboon, settin' on a bench, monkey give the baboon a hard pinch
Baboon grabbed him by his tail, didn't stop 'til he was down in jail
REFRAIN: Monkeys doodle-doo, monkeys doodle-doo
You try to make a monkey out of me, I'll make a baboon out of you

Monkey and the baboon playin', monkey and the baboon, in the briar patch, monkey told the baboon, "We got to scratch."
Baboon said, "You sure is strange, you stop callin' me those funny names."
REFRAIN: Monkeys doodle-doo, monkeys doodle-doo
You try to make a monkey out of me, I'll make a baboon out of you

REFRAIN: And the monkeys doodle-doo, monkeys doodle-doo
You try to make a monkey out of me, I'll make a baboon out of you

Monkey and the baboon, playin' in the grass, monkey told the baboon, "You play too fast."
Monkey got a stick, hit him 'cross the head, now the little monkey is nearly dead
REFRAIN: Monkeys doodle-doo, monkeys doodle-doo
You try to make a monkey out of me, I'll make a baboon out of you

Edited 7/10 to pick up corrections from banjochris and Johnm

John, I think that verse, after the obvious mistake at the beginning is:

Monkey and the baboon in the briar patch, monkey told the baboon we got to scratch
Baboon said, "You sure is strange, you stop [or possibly "just"] callin' me them funny names."

In verse 5 I think they're settin' on the fence, not playin'. I need to listen to the whole thing again when I have a little more time; the tempo is pretty brisk!

Thanks so much for the help, Chris.  Your suggestion for that verse was spot on.  As you say, the tempo is so quick--I think my hearing gets fatigued at some point.  And once I hear something wrong in the front end of a line, it's hard to make sense out of the tail end of the same line.  Thanks, and I have made the change.
All best,

Hi all,
For "It's A Funny Little Thing", a sort of Hokum chorus blues, Barbecue Bob accompanied himself out of G position in standard tuning.  He utilized this accompaniment for a good number of his songs which differed only in the lyrics.  Here is "It's A Funny Little Thing":

INTRO

I got somethin' ain't got no name, everybody sees it, says it's funny little thing
REFRAIN: Ah, it's a funny little thing, ah, it's funny little thing
Oh, everybody teases it, tells me it's a funny little thing

Come on and get it, you don't have to stay, don't find 'em like this 'un every day
REFRAIN: It's a funny little thing, ah, it's funny little thing
Oh, everybody get it, they tell me it's a funny little thing

It'll make you sigh, make you cry, you may get sick but you won't die
REFRAIN: It's a funny little thing, ah, it's funny little thing
Oh, everybody get it, they tell me it's funny little thing

I give it to the gal, other day, she's knockin' on my door, 'fore my wife get away
REFRAIN: Ah, it's a funny little thing, ah, it's funny little thing
Oh, everybody get it, they tell me it's a good little thing

It ain't no liquid, just a little herbs, the doctor use for broke-down nerves
REFRAIN: It's a funny little thing, ah, it's funny little thing
Oh, everybody get it, they tell me it's a good little thing

You don't have to hurry, you don't have to go, but you get a little of this, you'll want some more of
REFRAIN: This funny little thing, ah, it's funny little thing
Oh, everybody sees it, tells me it's a funny little thing

I've got it right here, in my hand, come on girls, tell your other man
REFRAIN: It's a funny little thing, ah, it's a funny little thing
Everybody get it, they tell me it's funny little thing

Honey, come on, get it, and don't get mad, soon as you get it, you'll soon be glad
REFRAIN: It's a funny little thing, ah, it's funny little thing
Everybody tells me, honey, it's a funny little thing

It'll make you weep, make you moan, 'cause a lot of mens to lose their home
REFRAIN: It's a funny little thing, ah, it's funny little thing
Oh, everybody get it, they tell me it's a good little thing

All best,
Johnm

You can tell old jambooger, I hired him a room today
You can tell old jambooger, I hired him a room today

I've always heard the second half of this line as "I ain't in my room today"

Quote
I'm gonna buy me a mattress, to-loo, to lay my head
I'm gon' buy me a mattress, to-loo, to lay my head
I don't want to lay where you and jambooger laid

my brain has always registered the "to-loo" as "pillow", albeit strangely pronounced given the half-yodel he sounds like he's doing :)

And from "Tellin' It To You":

Quote
I got a brand new mama, threw snow in my face
Got a brand new mama, threw snow in my face
"Pack up your suitcase, someone have taken your place."

The first two lines sound like this to me:

I got a brand new mama to snore in my face

Just my two cents.  I know far better than to demand that I'm correct ;)

Thanks very much for those suggestions, LeftyStrat, I re-listened to the songs, and in every instance I preferred what you heard to what I had transcribed.  I've made the changes, and the lyrics make more sense now.  Thanks!

Thank you, John...for your response.  I may have done so long ago, but if not I'd like to do so again.

I joke in my posts here about not daring to say what I hear is right, because I know my ears are nowhere near as good as the wonderful folks here, you included.   Heck, the doctor told me recently that a hearing aid might be best to prevent further hearing loss.

I reckon what I mean is that I'm awfully glad to contribute to this and any other threads that I can, and I am humbled that my contributions are so graciously accepted.

Thanks again, so much!
