We knows nothing much about the blues... we called it blues, we called it breakdowns, we called it blues and some people say it's square dances... We didn't know what it was; the achin'-hearted blues is slow, breakdowns is fast - Percy Thomas, who played in the Son Simms Four with Muddy Waters, interviewed by Paul Oliver, from Blues Off The Record

Lightnin' Wells: "Cross the River Jordan" - posted on YouTube today

Lightin' looking very debonair and dramatic in sepia tones.

Pan, that doesn't sound like the version of Candyman that John Hurt played at the Newport fest in '65 or '64, this is the version I'm listening to,

but then again, which Newport fest is that? must be after 65 because Dylan's all decked out in furs.

Calvin,

Modify the above post so you can see how to post embedded Youtube videos.  There is a Youtube BBC code button (6th from the left) that you can use and all you need is put video ID in between the codes.

The code looks like this:
Code: [Select]
[yt=425,350]video id goes here[/yt]
Thanks,

Yes, great find Calvin.  1966 - both Estes and Rachell in fine form, but Estes looks pretty frail at age 62. Rachell's playing is spectacular (age 56!)

A good smattering of country blues videos in the 93 this guy has uploaded.  The kind of player that makes you think you should take up stamp collecting instead.  All videos aimed at both hands.  Great voice too.  Sample "Hesitation Blues" and "The Girl from Ipanema" ..at least...  ;)

He prohibits embedding his videos - so here is a listing of all.

Tasty player, great timing of the basic Am / E lick on Hes Blues, will have to revisit mine which is in a deep rut (I call it a 'groove') worn by 30 plus years of playing it, one of the first tunes I learned to fingerpick. Fretkillr's is more Jorma than Gary but it has a lot going for it. Re the other thread, he's a natural rulebreaker and a mixer, I can dig that.

Slack if you want to learn those fun up the neck things he's doing Jorma breaks them down pretty clearly on one of his DVDs. They're not too difficult.

Great camera angle for teaching, I agree.
