« on: December 15, 2024, 12:54:50 PM »
Hi all,
There is currently (12/24) a great selection of films on music available to watch at the Criterion Channel. Here is a partial listing:
   * By Les Blank
     1) "I Went to The Dance"-focuses on Cajun and Zydeco
     2) "Marc and Ann"-focuses on Cajun musicians Marc and Ann Savoy
     3) "The Blues According to Lightnin' Hopkins"
     4) "A Well Spent Life"-focuses on Mance Lipscomb
     5) "Spend It All"-focuses on Cajun lifestyle, especially food and music
     6) "Hot Pepper"-focuses on Zydeco star, Clifton Chenier
     7) "Sprout Wings and Fly"-focuses on Old-Time fiddler Tommy Jarrell
     8) "A Poem Is a Naked Person"-focuses on Leon Russell
     9) "Dizzy Gillespie"
   * By Shirley Clarke
     1) "Ornette: Made In America"-focuses on Jazz musician Ornette Coleman
   * By Murray Lerner
     1) "Festival"-films from the Newport Folk Festival, 1963--1966
   * by Bertrand Tavernier
     1) "Mississippi Blues"-filmed in 1983

This is by no means a complete listing of what they have at the Criterion Collection in the way of music films, but it gives you some idea of what you might find there.

All best,
Johnm
