I tell you, all them scounds could play good; I don't know which one was best. I liked that Lonnie - he was the big fat one - I liked his violin playin', but that other one, what played violin and piano, too, and everything, I believe it was Bert. They both played so good, it'd be hard to tell how to judge which one played the best - Houston Stackhouse remembers the Chatmon brothers, The Voice of the Blues

Gennett Records Documentary
« on: November 09, 2018, 10:15:30 AM »
Hi all,
I just received a google alert featuring the below link with an article discussing an upcoming documentary on Gennett Records. Per the article: "The Music Makers of Gennett Records premieres November 25 at 8 p.m. on WTIU and Facebook Live." And "Following the premiere on WTIU and Facebook Live, The Music Makers of Gennett Records will be available to watch on this website from November 26 through December 26."

And here's the trailer:

Just a note on this: It looks like you can't stream the documentary online unless you're a Passport member of the local PBS station WTIU (I'm a Passport member of my local PBS station but even that doesn't get me access.). Also, it appears there may be another related documentary in the works entitled 'The Gennett Suite'.

More on both documentaries at this site:

And a belated thanks to Stuart for digging up the other info.

Thanks for the update, Lew. I just watched it, so it's available at the moment. It's a local production that was aired complete with pledge breaks--as is the on-line streaming version.

Ah, thanks for pointing that out Stuart. Not sure if it wasn't available when I was on the site yesterday or if I just missed it.

So yeah, I stand corrected, you can currently view the documentary here:
