My baby came to me this morning and said I'm kinda confused. She said "If me and B.B. King was both drownin', which one would you choose?" And I said "Oh Baby, Oh Baby, Oh Baby, I ain't never heard you play no blues" - Steve Goodman, The I Ain't Never Heard You Play No Blues

First try:

Stagolee

It was on that sad and dark, stormy night
When Stagolee and Billy de Lyons had that awful fight
That bad man Stagolee (2x)

Stagolee said to Billy de Lyons, have a drink with me
Says I?m in a whole lotta trouble, and I?m out on a drinkin? spree
That bad man Stagolee (2x)

Billy said to Stagolee, you ain?t too hot
Now before I drink a drink with you, I?d rather [     ]
That bad man Stagolee,
That bad man ain?t he bad

Stagolee?s 44 went boom, boom, boom
Wasn?t long ?fore when Billy de Lyons was lyin? on the floor
That bad man Stagolee (2X)

Then Stagolee walked up to the foremen, and said how much change you got?
Two dollars and a half and a [                            ]
That bad man Stagolee
He's bad, bad ain?t he bad

He walked up to a bossman, and asked him for some change
Then got some change in the changin? house but it was much too late
That bad man Stagolee (2X)

Then Stagolee?s woman come but you did not heard [           ]
And before she changed old Stagolee [                ]
That bad man Stagolee (2X)

Lord weren?t it a mighty  [wander?],  Well weren?t it a mighty  [ talk?]
When you see I?m takin? Stagolee out on an evening walk
That bad man Stagolee
It?s bad, bad ain?t he bad

Way down on the new cut road,  heard a bulldog bark
When Stagolee and his cousin, was standing in the dark
That bad man Stagolee

Stagolee my only son, don?t you be bad
Don?t kill your brother [           ] ?bout a five dollar Stetson hat
That bad man Stagolee (2X)

Stagolee, Stagolee, please don?t take my life
I got three little children and a loving little wife
That bad man Stagolee
It?s bad, bad ain?t he bad

I don?t care about all your three children, and neith?r your loving wife
Since you done stole my Stetson hat?

Thanks for taking a run at Jess Harris's version of "Stagolee", Eric!  I will put in some time on it, too, and see if we can finish off the transcription.  Here is the performance, for other folks who might like to help out, too.

All best,
Johnm

Hi all,
Here is a performance by Blind Jesse Harris in which he plays another of the songs listed in the Song Family category in Weeniepedia, "Railroad Bill".  Any help with the lyrics is most appreciated.

Railroad Bill is a mighty bad man, he shot that lantern out of that brakeman's hand
I'm scared of Railroad Bill

I said, Railroad Bill, a dangerous coon, he shot that conductor by the light of the moon
I'm scared of Railroad Bill

If you want to go to [                                                                     ]
I'm scared of Railroad Bill

I say, Railroad Bill, was mighty mean, he wouldn't have nothin' but a [             ]
I'm scared of Railroad Bill

I said, Railroad Bill, was on that curve, he pulled around there just when the [          ]
I'm scared of Railroad Bill

I say, Railroad Bill, he went out West, a .44 he's carryin' right across his breast
I'm scared of Railroad Bill

I say, Railroad Bill, was mighty mean, he whupped that man [               ]
I'm scared of Railroad Bill

That woman comes up, [                                                  ]
I'm scared of Railroad Bill

I say, Railroad Bill, didn't have a wife, been a long time studyin' 'bout the poor man's life
I'm still scared about Railroad Bill

All best,
Johnm

All best,
Johnm
