Lester McFarland--"K. C. Whistle Blues"
« on: December 26, 2015, 01:10:36 PM »
Hi all,
Lester McFarland recorded as half of the "Mac and Bob" duo, with the other half being Bob Gardner.  The two met in the Kentucky School for the Blind.  They had a successful recording career from 1926-1940, doing a combination of Country "Heart Songs", religious material, harder Old-Time material, novelty numbers and occasional blues.  Lester McFarland recorded "K. C. Whistle Blues", a song in the "K. C. Moan" family, as a solo number, accompanying himself out of Vestapol, with a slide, and doing some really expert playing.  Here is his performance of the song:

SOLO

I thought I heard that loving K. C. blow
I thought I heard that loving K. C. blow
She blowed like she never blowed before

I woke up this mornin', had to whistle to keep from cryin'
I woke up this mornin', I had to whistle to keep from cryin'
I was thinkin' about that used-to-be of mine

I wonder if she ever thinks of me
I wonder if she ever thinks of me
Sometimes I think that I will write and see

Oh, just look where that evening sun has gone
Oh, just look where that evening sun has gone
Gone down behind the mountain and it won't be back 'til morn'

Oh, take me back and try me one more time
Oh, take me back and try me one more time
If I don't do, then send me down the line

Oh, hand me that long distance phone
Oh, hand me that long distance phone
Gonna talk to my honey all night long

I thought I heard that loving K. C. blow
I thought I heard that loving K. C. blow
She blowed like she'll never blow no more

All best,
Johnm
