Title: >>> 2017 Euroweenie 21-22 April 2017 <<<
Post by: Richard on May 11, 2016, 02:12:42 AM
Can you believe the efficiency  :o  I have actually provisionally booked ten rooms at the Webbington for the 2017 Euroweenie fandango on the 21st and 22nd April 2017 (Friday and Saturday).

The B&B room rates are the same as this year, but to clarify matters it does now say to include dinner, ergo -

Single occupancy    ?85.00 per night

Double\twin   ?110.00 per night

Now, if you are really keen there is no reason why you should not book now is there?

And, if by way of encouragement I'm guessing that next years event will be the about 10th and should be celebrated, so why don't a few of you from foreign climes or across the Atlantic splash out (ho ho ho) and come over and join us?

Good man Mike, you've reminded me as well  - have you tried booking yet?

I will check with the hotel to make sure they still have our booking for next year, unlike this year where it got lost in favour of a wedding until I had a wobbler...

As for Weissenborn, I have to admit to getting one as well, it's a lot lighter to carry about than a reso and if you do get one we could have Weissenborn owners club meet and bore everybody to death comparing string sizes et al...

Oh Gawd, you as well!

I just hope you know what size strings you have it on then otherwise we in owners club will have very little to talk about...

I'm working myself up to committing to next year's gathering. I missed all my friends this year and think I really need to make an effort. I can again take endless pictures of geezers young and old playing guitars.

Be delighted to see you there PP, but do careful working yourself up at your age...

Now I have just checked with the Webbington ( Tel 01934 750100 ) and they have actually got it right this year and are holding 10 rooms for me, I realise it's bit early and Father Christmas has yet to deliver that new guitar, but if you want book in so you can show us that new guitar, then go for it.

Will be booking soon! That fine chap, Mr Shipman of the New Forest Collective has bought my Weissenborn copy. On the strength of the sale I bought a new wide-angle lens, so I can get all the dancing girls in my photos of the next Euroweenie event (you did book them, didn't you Richard??).

Excellent news PP, but very sorry to hear about your guitar sale. I assume you won't be joining the Weiss Club night out then, that's a pity as that's when I had the dancing girls booked.  Ah well, anyway I'm sure Mr Ship will want to watch them perform in your place, especially the one with the snake.

Nice of  Adrian_P to show some interest, he would be more than welcome to bring his toy and\or guitar, we could even have a Weiss Trio and that would would really scare those uke chaps!

And, on a more general note It's time to start booking that hotel men, the luvly ladies on reception are just waiting for your call....

Evening all,
I will book my place tomorrow, just waiting on PeteGabony to let me know if he's able to come along.
Cheers, Mike
Ps PP i think i could negotiate ex owner Wssnbrn status for you to get into "the club", particularly if you bring the dancing ladies...is Anna Conda still wriggling?

I'm (belatedly) booked.

And I now have a car big enough to bring half of my guitar collection if I were so minded.

That said, if we get put in the Library again, space will be limited and most of them would have to stay in the car...

Its half the fun though, isn't it?  Deciding which old wooden boxes to bring along... 8)

Just need to check my banjo mute (9lb hammer) and banjo tuner (heavy gauge wire cutters) - oh and I nearly forgot the neck resetting equipment (bolt croppers).  :D

A special sub-group has been set up for banjo players. This will be based in the field at the other side of the M5 motorway and they meet at 5 am.

Just a quick update, in that the hotel is actually ready for us this year and it looks as though we might have the euphemistically termed 'library' room again to play in, strange it has so few books!

While I'm here, who else is thinking of coming? Can you please post here to signal intent and when you make your reservation, there were 10 rooms booked and if my maths are incorrect 6 are now taken, but the helpful bloke at the hotel says more are not a problem.

I'm booked.
If you're having Weissenborn session I assume you've booked Lap Dancers.
I have yet to decide what instruments to bring.
Collaborative suggestions are welcome.
I look forward to hearing from you all.

Good news Graham and as for instruments, well definitely the mandolin, banjo? I can confirm the lap dancers are scheduled and are all staying PPs room, I hope he won't mind.

On a more sersious note the hotel have been in touch wondering if I want the remaining rooms,  living in hope of a few more regulars I have said yes.... so who hasn't book that should have?

I ought to say I have a rule only to join in quizzes where the answer to all questions is Mississippi John Hurt.  :)

Good news Scratch.

Good news Davet, sorry to hear you won't be winning the quiz. Pray tell, where are you coming from? Suggest if your two musical followers need a room they had better fix up with the hotel.

Imagine if Colm were to turn up it as well, they'd all be in JH orgasmatron mode, still even that couldn't beat the sound of the massed resonator turnout!

It will be good to have some "new blood" at the Euroweenie jamboree and I look forward to meeting you all. Pity you're not staying at the Webbington as Richard has reserved rooms and needs to fill them for us to qualify for the special price...

If your mates play guitars, what about you?

Hi Parlour Picker

I am just someone who hangs out with bands. :-)

Just checking what sort of kit is ok. The band play mostly electric at low volumes. They have accoustics and one is going to bring a cigarbox.

This is important boys and girls, I am in the process of doing a cobbled-up timetable and find I could do with another workshop something to fill the time.

So, would any of you care to volunteer your services for say a 30\40 minute session or other for a couple of 15\20 minute spots ??? Or even all of it!

I would add that if you have never done anything like this before but feel you have something to impart it's a great and informal way to give it a go   :-X  At this point I should remind the latent audience that you are only allowed to jeer and boo, not throw things.

If nobody else is brave enough then I shall be reduced to doing another one of my dreadful aural type quizzes and a real time demonstartion of resonator polishing.

Richard, I am polishing the banjoes all up so as to be seen in their finest condition, its good to have open acknowledgement of the wonder of these machines. I know Phil and Michael also harbour a love for all things banjo but feel unable to express it, thats why they deride and verbally abuse them, the more they do so, the more intense are their feelings of adoration to the banjo. I do hope they feel able to "come out" soon, it must be such a burden for them to carry.

It is really a shame Mike, that your professed love for the b**j* is based on your sublimated fear of the tuneless, sustainless, clanking sound that these things make. You believe you control them but in reality they control you. Seek counselling immediately to save yourself.

For those who are interested here is this year's Euroweenie Quiz. Champ was Professor Scratchy with 12.5 points followed by Richard on 6.5. no reference books allowed.

Amos Easton recorded in the 30?s and the 50?s. What was his nom de disque?

2. Who made the 1st recording of Come Back Baby?

3. Name 3 songs by Leroy Carr.

4. Gus Cannon?s Jug Stompers had one of the greatest harp players, who was he?

5. Black Angela Blues and the song under similar titles has been recorded by many artists including BB King. Who made the 1st recording in December 1930?

6. Who 1st recorded Bullfrog Blues?

7. R.Petway?s most famous recording is a 1 chord piece. Name 3 artists who have recorded this since (not necessarily under the same title). There will be 5 bonus points if a certain 50?s recording is named. 5 points will be subtracted if a certain later recording is nominated - beware!

8. Name 1 member of the Shreveport Homewreckers.

9. How many versions of Kansas City Blues did Jim Jackson record (+/-1)

10. This singer recorded form the 30?s to the 60?s. One of his noms de bisque was Pinewood Tom?

11.   Which bluesman recorded an album for Blue Goose records called ?Fast & Funky??

12.    Blind Willie Harris? 1930 recording ?Never Drive a Stranger from your Door? is a reworking of which popular song?

13.   Which record company did most of its recordings in a furniture factory in Grafton, Wisconsin?

14.  Robert Johnson most likely stole his song ?32-20? from which other bluesman who recorded it earlier under a slightly different title?

Once again I had the lowest score, Zero! Consistency is important I think.
Although there might have been a sinle point as I was answering Skip James to everything and cant recall if I got one (flukey) point?
Very enjoyable weekend great to see everyone, lots of laughs, good music and good food! Shame I left my smart shirt in the wardrobe(doh!), it didnt even get worn🙁
Same time next year Richard?

I agree entirely Mike, it really wouldn't be the same unless you were the bottomless barometer upon which we depend to measure our quizzing performance, an excellent idea to offer Skip James as the answer to everything, just a pity it was wrong  but, there's always next year  :)

Talking of which I am waiting to hear if they will have us there again and what dates are available, so watch this space.

Thanks to everyone who appeared, particularly those new to the big event, I know it is a distance but I hope it was worth it. Further thanks to those who gave us the mimi-masterclass' and almost finally, congratulations to Bob-a-Long for getting engaged  8)

I know PP was taking pics like his box Brownie was going out of fashion so maybe he will post a little taster for those who wisely missed the great event, a shot of Stuart's amazing footwear mit bells could be an inspiration to all who crave a new fashion  :-X

Photos of event now posted. It's a laborious process, making 'em all smaller, etc, but I got there in the end. Most taken without flash in the fairly dark room (sorry the "Library" - there were a few books on one shelf), so some have taken on the atmosphere of a Dutch master...

Some good pics there PP (Parlor Polaroid... see what I did there!?, yeah?), I took some too with my phone so that your attendance would not go un documented but the indoor ones are a bit indistinct and they all need to be resized to be acceptable for uploading, not an inconsequential task for this Luddite! I will give it a go when I get some time and energy.
Best go off to stroke the herd of banjoes, they are still unhappy that one of them didnt get to Webbington.
