Furry Lewis, Gus Cannon, Memphis Willie B. concert question
« on: October 19, 2010, 10:59:48 PM »
I know that many of the Friends of Old-Time Music concerts in New York in the 1960s were recorded, and quite a few numbers have been released, first on a Folkways LP and then more recently with the 3 CD set on Smithsonian Folkways. Neither of these releases have any tunes from this concert. I'm sure most of us on here have seen the picture of the three of them standing on the steps of the Folklore Center in NYC, and I'm pretty sure I've seen a photo of the three of them on stage.

Just wondering, does a recording of this exist? If so, has anyone heard it? If not, was anyone at the concert? I'd be interested to know what the three of them sounded like together.

Can't speak for the recording but if you click on the Gus Cannon tag below the first entry is a lengthy, evocative report of an event featuring the three - maybe the one referred in question.

I've got that album -- they're not together on it. I would really like to see the accompanying film Sam Charters made, however. And Bunker Hill -- that's definitely the concert. I remember reading that article a couple of years ago -- thanks for posting it (and reminding me of it)!
