Peg Leg Howell Lyrics

Stuart:
You're right, Chris. It's at around the 58 second mark:

Slack:
I'd never come across "Green's Dictionary of Slang" -- it looks like a great site to keep in your back pocket Johnm.  The historical references are impressive!

Johnm:
Yup, that seems like a really useful find, John D. One thing about that "Ball And Chain Blues" rendition we've been working on: Peg Leg Howell sings the song with great intensity, but his partner, Jim Hill, delivers a continuous string of peanut gallery comments which are quite at odds with the mood of Peg Leg Howell's vocal. It kind of reminds me of Tommy Duncan singing a beautiful ballad with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, while Bob Wills does everything he can to sandbag him with a string of doofus comments. As a listener, my response to the non-singer in both instances is "Please shut up."

Slack:
Ha!  Well you and I have talked about Bob Wills before... obviously some people just love Bob's dufus comments, they want more!  But I'm happy to report, direct from Turkey Texas, that the BW tribute bands do not do the Bob Wills 'Ah Hahs' or silly comments.  Tommy Duncan had such great range and tone in his voice too.  Jim Hill I can pretty much tune out - not so easy with Bob.
