Robert Belfour Lyrics
« on: November 26, 2022, 09:54:01 AM »
Hi all,
Robert Belfour recorded "Black Mattie" for his first Fat Possum album, "What's Wrong With You", accompanying himself out of Spanish tuning. This is such a strong rendition, and the number of variations that Robert Belfour was able to come up with for his main melodic idea is kind of staggering.. Here is "Black Mattie":

INTRO

Oh black Mattie, girl ain't got a change in clothes
Oh black Mattie, girl ain't got a change in clothes
Love that woman, anywhere I go

INTERLUDE

Oh black Mattie, fool ain't got a change in clothes
Girl got mad at me, throwed all of my clothes outdoors
Love that woman, anywhere I go

INTERLUDE

I work seven days a week, still can't make ends meet
I work seven days a week, still can't make ends meet
She says she love me, tellin' me, "Don't go."
Girl throwed all of my clothes outdoors
Love that woman, anywhere I go
Love that woman, anywhere I go

INTERLUDE

Love that woman, anywhere I go

CODA

All best,
Johnm
