There's also a mando bass which doesn't have a flapper for scale, but when you notice the rod sticking out of it to rest it on the floor like a dog house bass (what do you call those) is also rather impressive. Too bad these image links will discappear. (ar, ar ,ar) All for now. John C. I believe those instruments must be from around the time Gibson employees discovered blue mushrooms growing behind the curing shed.

Not so odd, but there is a beautiful Stella Sovereign 12 string on eBay right now. Is this like yours, Barbecue John? Alex http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170304347932&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNAFP:CA:1123 Very similar, Ghosty. Same woods, body size, purfling, white binding, white neck heel cap. Mine has a 6 pin bridge, which I think is very cool (and less top perforation). Also my bridge is a replacement as the original was cracked. The new bridge is noticeably wider as it needed to be moved quite a bit to correct intonation issues and we made it wider to cover the scar. Also mine has the large pick guard that extends under the strings. There must be pics in one of the early galleries. Roz posted one of me playing from a PT student concert a few years back.
Hmmm, I see it's going off as I type. I'd say it is worth the BIN, even at currently deflated prices, but perhaps no one who doesn't own one would agree with me. -G- I have mine insured for somewhat more than that. All for now, John C. Quote perhaps no one who doesn't own one would agree with me..I'd agree with you, waxwing! I didn't see that guitar until I read this thread..It's had some pretty serious repairs, but..like they say, find another one.. That guitar is basically the Stella Lead Belly jumbo, with the Sovereign headstock name..very, very rare..I've seen/heard of less than 10 known (w. spruce/mahog/jumbo combo) At 5K, a lot of boom for the buck! There is a supercool, old small-bodied 12 string for sale on eBay right now. It doesn't ship to Canada, so I can't bid. Check it out. If any of you Americans want to bid on my behalf.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290554548848 Alex Alex - have you tried asking the seller if he'll ship to Canada? Some sellers list as ship to U.S. but when asked are happy to ship to Canadians.
UB:
The new eBay way of asking the seller a question is very restrictive. I tried, but the automated ebay question thing said that the seller wasn't answering questions. I tried Alex Huh, I'd seen changes that made asking questions a bit more cumbersome, but you're right, you can't even ask a question on this listing. That's nuts.
I sent him a question, seemed to go through. Here's my take on this guitar, it looks like a marriage of an old Regal with a newer neck..I've never seen a cheapo from that era with an adjustable truss rod, and the saddle is way back on the bridge, indicating that a new bridge was put on and routed to adjust for scale length with the new neck..that's my theory, anyway. Plus, concert size/standard size (what many call 'parlor') 12-string guitars are really rare. ..most were bigger, like 14" or 15" across the lower bout. However, the intrinsic value may be there if the price stays close to where it is.. could be a fun player if the set up is good..Tom
Here's the reply from the ebay seller to my question: >Dont know much about history some people think that it may have been converted in the 1950s or 1960s others think its a regal guitar . Ive only had it for five years. .The bridge is glued down not loose It plays and sounds good sold as is< Howdy: My new, favorite must have guitar. 22.5" lower bout!!! Yowsar! Let's Hear O'Muck play this one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-WASHBURN-G2089-LYON-HEALY-COLLEGE-LINE-MONSTER-BASS-ACOUSTIC-GUITAR-/360442362496?pt=Guitar&hash=item53ec09fa80 Alex Fun catalog. The bass banjo needs to be seen, so am adding it here. Wouldn't this bass banjo be perfect for Euroweenie weekend? Alex
