image-scanning technology used on audio restoration

This was posted elsewhere by the Carolina Chocolate Drops, and I thought some of you might be interested in it. I think it was mentioned on a thread recently, but I couldn't find it using the search.

This technology looks promising, if costly, but choosing and preserving the old audio looks like daunting task.
