The Gallus Brothers - Crow Quill Night Owls - Bellingham, WA
« on: January 27, 2011, 09:25:11 PM »
The Gallus Brothers, The Crow Quill Night Owls,  and The Underscore Orchestra (Portland)

Thursday, March 3rd, 8 pm, The Cirque Lab, 2107 Iron St, Bellingham, WA , $5

The Gallus Brothers are a two piece playing country blues.  It's me on guitar and vocals, and Lucas Hicks on percussion including washboard, suitcase, bones and spoons.  We also stand on eachother and do slightly dangerous antics while playing songs.. sometimes.  We also break into mandolin rags and fiddle tunes occasionally.  We have fun playing.

The Crow Quill Night Owls are a string band that plays blues, rags, and jugband type stuff.  Featuring Kit Stymee Stovepipe on guitar, Alex on tenor banjo, and the Gallus Brothers as a rhythm section.

The Underscore Orchestra from Portland, Oregon play original music based in balkan traditions, with a mix of swing and klezmer thrown in there.  They are young, talented, high energy, and tons of fun!

This was part of a larger variety show thing we were doing, hence the belly dancer and the fog machine.

Devin,
What's the title of the song in the Gallus Brothers video?  Also, what's the title of the second song (I think) you're playing in the Mandolinetto video awhile back?  Good luck with the shows.  I was listening to Mechanical Unicorn while running errands this morning.  It's fun stuff.

Thanks,
Gary

Hi Gary,

I'm glad you're getting some listening pleasure with the Crow Quill CD!  The song in the Gallus video is a rendition of Vastopol.  It comes out different every time.  The second tune in the mando video is a made up rag, pieced together with borrowed licks..  it's kind of my generic go-to song for when I'm just noodlin around.

 Thanks,
  Devin
