New 78 Quarterly
« on: January 04, 2005, 09:38:23 PM »
Hello Folks, Just in case anyone doesn't know, the new 78 Quarterly (issue 12) is out. Great stuff about rare 78 doings, including the amazing Teffteller Paramount finds, plus other great articles, and you can also pick up back issues. For those who collect 78's, these are almost as good as listening to weeniecampbell.

Also wanted to let Boots know that I'm also a non player. Although, I did study music theory and keyboard harmony etc. Thanks to the GI Bill.

Happy New Year Folks, Phil

From the sample article online (I think that's an old one, no?) re. the end of Paramount records:

No one gave any thought to preserving its catalog of nearly 1200 " race" records, some 42 of which have never been recovered. "The last ones we had in stock," Fred Boerner said of his company's records, "we threw in the air and used them for target practice."

Ouch.

Yes, the sample article on 78Q's site is an old article from issue #7. However, issue 12 has just come out in the last couple of months, I believe. Issue 12 has an article about Teftellers discorvery of the original Charley Patton photo and other original Paramount photos, etc. plus his discovery of a previously unfound King Solomon Hill 78. Also, are articles about Ma Rainey, Marshall Owens, Bayless Rose and  the Superior 300 series .

Sorry Phil but there are rumours afoot that we will be charged as we're not fully participatory members.

Help get the ball rolling a put your location in your profile.

As both of you know I can spot you folks who don't play an instrument - no callouses and  way too much time on their hands  --  and as a result I'll just put you to work!

I just clicked on the link http://www.78quarterly.com/ to see what was new at 78 Q and it appears the link is dead. Google turned up nothing conclusive. Anyone know what's up?

I ran a search on "78 Quarterly" and I found a direct link to it on www.bluesworld.com but, like the previous link it leads me to a "Page can not be found" message.

Yes, and Amazon. I'm surprised they'd let the website go though. It was one of the more interesting places on the web I thought, though frustrating that you couldn't get at all the content on line.
