Black Crepe on Door

Been reading a book named "The Great Influenza" by John W. Barry and this info came up for the "black crepe on door" found in prewar blues.

Barry writes that this was popular in 1918 to do when someone died.  White crepe was hung on a door for young people, black crepe for middle aged and grey for older people.

Thanks, Harriet.

The lyric also shows in the 60s. From one of my all time favorite electric blues records "Johnny Young And His Chicago Blues Band"
