« on: August 20, 2008, 02:17:10 PM »
Here's the link that I came across at the blindmans's blues forum: http://www.legends-of.de/video/dvd3/festival1/c_dvd3_festival1_video_v1.html

The artist / song list:

1. Little Walter My Babe
2. Koko Taylor Will My Man Be Home Tonight
3. Koko Taylor Wang Dang Doodle4. Bukka White Aberdeen Mississippi Blues
5. Little Walter instrumental
6. Skip James Hard Times Killing Floor
Interview with Bruce Jackson
7. Son House Death Letter Blues
8. Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee Born With The Blues
Interview with Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee
9. Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee Rock Island Line
Interview with Horst Lippmann
10. Little Walter Mean Old World
11. Hound Dog Taylor Shake Your Moneymaker
12. Koko Taylor & Band What Kind of Man Is This

Looks promising, no?

Pan:

There's four DVDs in the set. They're all worth watching, IMHO.

For you Puget Sounders, the Seattle Public Library has all four volumes.

Why do I only see three dvds- '67, '68 and '69? Or are you talking about the three volumes of the American Folk Blues Festival that were released a few years ago? Also, does anyone know what kind of form Little Walter is in on these? Was he totally demolished by this point in time? Thanks!

I haven't heard the performances on this DVD, but in "Blues With A Feeling", the biography of Little Walter by Tony Glover, Scott Dirks, and Ward Gaines, the authors note that, both from contemporary reviews and from listening to the tracks available to the public before the book's publication date (2002), Walter, while certainly not at the top of his game, was in decent form for most of the tour.  This even though he couldn't bring an amplifier for his harmonica so had to play through the PA, and was encouraged by the European sound engineers to stand well back from the microphone.

It's interesting to note that the track list of Little Walter performances on this DVD don't match any Walter's set lists from the tour that were known to the authors in 2002.

Thank you very much for that helpful information. I want to buy the Little Walter bio., but am currently busy reading the Earl Hooker biography, which is a lot of fun. I guess I'll buy the dvd, but I don't see it available on Amazon.com yet. Any idea when it'll be out?

Scroll down and you'll see all four volumes. Vol. 4 is "The British Tours 1963-1966."

Don't forget to go through WeenieCampbell if you decide to buy.

The Amazon link is not correct and refers to older and other issues.
The new dvd's are called "Legends of...." and apparantly not on Amazon yet.

Thanks for the correction. I'll keep my eyes open for it. Hopefully,  "Legends..." will contain all new, unreleased material and not just be a re-boxing of the AFBF clips.

The dvd has been released; well worth the wait.
It contains 156 minutes of previously unreleased material. Has a nice 50 page booklet too.

I especially liked the 69 festival. You'll see Chris Strachwitz presenting the artists in german!  Great backstage footage as well (Earl Hooker crooning and playing a CW song)

Here's the link to the seller.
