STRING BAND BLUES WORKSHOP with Suzy Thompson
All instruments, singers, kazoos welcome too!
Do you love 1920?s-30?s-era jug band music, fiddle rags and country blues? Do you sing and/or play a string instrument (fiddle, mandolin, guitar, uke, bass, or even kazoo? at intermediate-ish level, by ear or with openness to learning by ear? Would you enjoy getting together with other folks to learn and play this music as a group?
Suzy Thompson will be leading a "String Band Blues" workshop - those who sign up will get a link to download the source material that we'll be working with, along with lyric sheets for the songs, and sheet music for the instrumental tune(s). At the workshop, you will learn and arrange songs (and probably at least one instrumental, depending on your instrumentation) drawn from the rich repertoire of jug band, country blues, and hillbilly blues and ragtime material of the 1920s and 30s.
Workshop leader Suzy Thompson performs and records with Geoff Muldaur and Jim Kweskin (occasionally with the Texas Sheiks), with resonator guitar goddess Del Rey, with the Todalo Shakers, with Marie Muldaur, and in a duo with her husband Eric. She has taught blues fiddle at Centrum?s ?Country Blues Week? in Port Townsend nearly every year since its inception. Suzy has been a leading force in many of the San Francisco Bay Area's roots music groups including Blue Flame String Band, Any Old Time, California Cajun Orchestra, Bluegrass Intentions, TodaloShakers, etc.
