Robert "Guitar" Welch Lyrics
« on: May 17, 2020, 12:21:51 PM »
Hi all,
Robert "Guitar" Welch was one of the musicians Dr. Harry Oster discovered and recorded while serving time at Angola Penitentiary in Louisiana, like Robert Pete Williams and Roosevelt Charles.  Welch's performance of "Lonesome Blues", for which he accompanied himself out of Spanish tuning, was released on the album "Negro Prison Blues and Songs".  Here is "Lonesome Blues":

INTRO SOLO

You know I'm worried, baby, Lord, but I won't be worried long
You know I'm worried, mama, Lord, but I won't be worried long
Companion I'm lovin', Lord, she done been here and gone

You know my suitcase packed, Lord, and my trunk's already gone
My suitcase packed, baby, Lord, and my trunk's already gone
You know by that, little woman, Lord, it's something goin' on wrong

I believe, I believe, baby, Lord, I believe I'll make a change
I believe, little woman, Lord, I believe I'll make a change
I'm gonna find me another little woman, go back to your other man (Spoken: Play it a while, man.)

SOLO

May be the last time, you can hear your baby say
May be the last time, you can hear your baby say
"Well, it's your time now, baby, Lord, but it's gon' be mine someday."

All best,
Johnm
