A phrase that should live in infamy appears all too often in the Gennett ledgers: "Rejected - too much backwoods" - Richard Nevins, entry on the Shepherd Brothers in R. Crumb's Heroes of Blues, Jazz and Country
Help....... whenever I use the single apostrophy key below the @ on this particular computer a search box pops up just above the task bar and then whatever I type goes into it. This does not happen on any other site and makes typing a pain since for things like Ive and Ill theres I am lookng even more illiterate than I am ....
The apostrophe is a short cut key for "quick search" in Firefox. Are you saying that if you are in an edit box replying to a message and you type an apostrophe ' ' ' ' (like that) -- that the search pops up?
I went into my Firefox browser and have not been able to duplicate the problem--but that's on my machine. Have you tried downloading and installing the most recent version / update of Firefox? From what I can gather, it's Firefox Setup 2.0.0.12.
Richard, is that really a single apostrophe? Do you also have a single apostrophe paired with a double apostrophe two keys to the left of your L, and does that work without problems? It really does sound like a keyboard mapping issue.
A little more info might help us focus in on the possible source of the problem. Telling us the specifics re: your computer, keyboard, operating system, web browser, etc., will definitely help.
As I learned in Paris at an internet, ah, parlor (? No coffee no nothin') with no other signage besides @ on the street (very hip), Euro keyboards are set up a little differently than stateside. I kept getting punctuation wrong. Check your keyboard library, dj.-G-

This is why a little more info would be helpful. For example, in XP one goes into "Regional and Language Options" and makes the appropriate adjustments. Selection of the appropriate keyboard is one of them.
Right folks and thanks for all the input but look........... ' ' ' ' ' ' it works!!!!!
I've upgraded to the latest Firefox and it seems to have cured itself. Maybe I should have done that before posting I suppose but since it only ever happened when on this site and when using this machine I thought something might have been astray. Out of interest, my Linux box is awaiting a new CD drive so I am using this XP thing till it beams down.
