A History of Rock in 500 Songs

(1/1)

MarkC:
I recently started listening to this podcast. It’s really well done:

https://500songs.com/

I’m listening to it on Apple Podcasts. It starts way back - the first two episodes are on “Flying Home” by The Benny Goodman Sextet and “Roll ‘em Pete” by Pete Johnson and Big Joe Turner. Even Blind Blake’s “Diddie Wah Diddie” was mentioned (along with a sound clip) in episode 118 on Manfred Mann’s “Do Wa Diddy Diddy.” It’s very addictive.

David Kaatz:
Complete agreement, Mark. I have listened to every episode but the most recent. I'll get to that soon.

I'm currently in the midst of a 9 episode podcast about Dolly Parton that is pretty interesting too. It's called Dolly Parton's America.

Slack:
Thanks for posting 500songs, I started listening and agree, it is very good!  Perfect for music geeks!

I'll have to check out Dolly Parton as well.

David Kaatz:
I just started listening to the latest episode (#166) of 500songs. The subject is Crossroads by Cream.
It goes deep into the history of the blues, name checking and playing excerpts by WC Handy, Bessie Smith, Blind Blake, Blind Lemon, Patton, Big Bill, Skip James, Son House, among others.
