Always keep your hat on. You know back in those days there was quite a lot of jealous guys in the audience and sometimes you have to run. But, If you got your hat on your head and you have to run, you know you left the house with it - Mississippi John Hurt giving advice to Archie Edwards
Played one of these 15 fret to the body babies today. Opinion? Absolutely phlucking awesome! Tuned down to B gorgeously mad and amazing sounding full of subtle overtones. Really extraordinary imo. One of the two or three best twelves I've ever played.

O'Muck--- the Martin specs show a 27 1/2" scale, an inch longer than Leadbelly's Stella. Any awkward stretches when you played it? Was Seeger's 12 that long?
And his Scratchyness is correct about the price (in a bi-lingual way), though I expect the usual 25-30% discount may be given by some of the CFM dealers. best, bruce
Umanov had it for $4200. Too rich for my blood. Ran it through all my Gary Davis instrumental repertoire and found it remarkably easy to make the stretches, which in fact didn't even feel like anything terribly different. I think Pete's original pubic triangle twelve string was made by a Scottish guitar maker and had a squarer shape. This neck just had one of those propitious intersections with my hand's anatomy that made everything possible. Its all in the neck!

Looks suspiciously like a Guild body shape, which is a probably a good thing. Martin 12s prior to this one (by the sound of it) were devoid of mojo. Or at least every one I've picked up were, the D shape just didn't seem to work. For me. Sorry. Now Guild, on the other hand...
I couldn't agree more Rivers. They just didn't seem to get what twelve strings were about at all. They were quiet, timorous beasties with no oomph at all. Dull, dull, deadly dull! Also for some reason much uncooler looking than a six string Martin. Guilds on the other hand had and maybe still have something going for them, though I tend to find that they produce an overtone pile-up, almost too much resonance so that everything gets mushed together via over long sustain and the music starts to become inarticulate. This guitar is nothing like either imo. Its got guts, volume and oomph, but also a degree of subtlety, and really beautiful overtones that hang around just long enough to make themselves noticed then jump out of the way, that I don't usually associate with 12s.
