What a fantastic find! I thoroughly enjoyed that :)

Edit: It appears that there's a whole lot more (though unpublished) - Stack O Lee, John Henry (Probably Spike Driver) - from 3 different angles, Trouble I Had It All My Days, C C Rider, Candy Man, Ain't Nobody's Business, A Duet With Fred McDowell sung by Sea Island Singers, A Gospel Song With a Group, a Gospel Duet with Mabel Hillary, Signing Autographs and Socialising at various festivals as well as some other short clips.

A short clip of Hurt playing "Candy Man" is in the movie "Festival!" I like that some of this Newport footage is finally if very slowly seeing the light of day, for instance on the Gary Davis "Harlem Street Singer" documentary. I have a feeling there's lots and lots of stuff no one or very few have seen. Some footage of Robert Wilkins definitely exists; it'd be great if there were some more footage of Dock Boggs, McGee Bros., Doc Watson with Ashley, Howard and Price, etc.

I was there. The blues workshop during Newport '63 was unforgettable.

Murray Lerner has more for sure, I spoke with him briefly when working on my Son House documentary. He was however, very protective, very overpriced and very unimpressed with my relative lack of experience and our correspondence did not last long. I don't wish to speak ill of him, his work is something I have enjoyed myself, and more is definitely surfacing, however I personally had difficulty working with him based on his view of me, which may have been correct in some respects.

This online archive however should be easier (with money) to work with as I believe it would be a primarily automated process. I was able to source all the HD clips of Lead Belly performing Goodnight Irene in 1935. 44 in total including over 20 of the song from different angles, with the audio in sync. Was great stuff and I wish I was able to share it. I did speak with user KingRoseArchives on YouTube as they have part of it posted to see if more could be posted to settle debate regarding Lomax's hand on Lead Belly's head that somehow became a race issue, but nothing came out of it.

As someone way too young to have seen any of my blues heroes, I cling to every bit of footage I can find.

Is the film at the top of this thread from Murray Lerner? Or did someone else also have a camera rolling?
