I just finished a wonderful book, recommended by Steve James: "Tom Ashley, Sam McGee, Bukka White: Tennessee Traditional Singers". I got it from the library, had to order it though, from another town. Author is Thomas G. Burton. Not very long, but very readable, prose is not too dry and retains some of the wonder that it ought to have (considering the subject matter), packed with information, some photos, some lyric transcription, and the analysis is not annoying, no pontificating or deconstruction. Published in the early 80s. An excellent read!!
