Hi all,
Chasey Collins only had two titles released, I believe, under his own name, both dating from a session in Chicago on October 21, 1935, for which he was joined by Big Joe Williams on nine-string guitar in Spanish tuning and Dad Tracy on violin, with those two backing his vocal as Chasey played the washboard. The trio also recorded some Big Joe features, among them the spectacular "Wild Cow Blues". I sure wish this group had recorded more, because they really had an exciting sound, loose in the best possible way. And Big Joe's playing from this period was so rhythmically free and varied--I can't think of a player in the style with a more complex rhythmic vocabulary combined with the ability to execute his ideas. Here is "Walking Blues", and I'd very much appreciate help with any blank or otherwise questionable spots in the transcription.

You can mistreat me here, but you can't when I go home
Lord, you can mistreat me here, but you, can't when I go home
I've got somebody there will make you leave me alone
Walk on, walk on, little girl, walk on
Walk on, walk on, little girl, walk on
Yeah, you gonna keep on walkin', 'til you lose your happy home
And you know you didn't love me, you fell down 'cross my bed, full of your moonshine whiskey, mama, talkin' all out your head
You know you didn't love me, fell down 'cross my bed
Full of your moonshine whiskey, mama, talkin' all out your head
Walk on, walk on, little girl, walk on
Walk on, walk on, little girl, walk on
Yeah, you gonna keep on a-walkin', 'til you lose your happy home
And I walked 'round to my window, and I peeped right through my blinds, I seen another darky tryin' to change my woman's mind
Sayin' I walked to my window, peeped right through the blinds
And I seed another darky, tryin' to change my woman's mind
SOLO
All best,
Johnm
