New Shake em on Down
« on: February 07, 2009, 06:52:37 AM »
Seeing the recent reviews of Lightnin Wells CD, reminded me of Big Bill Broonzy's tune entitled "New Shake em on down".

The tune appears on the compilation CD "Big Bill's Blues". I am not aware of it appearing on any other CD.

Can anyone tell me if Big Bill's version is an adaptation from the original or if it truely is "NEW".

BTW...That CD also contains Big Bill's awesome version of "Night Time is the Right Time"

Well, it's rather different than Tommy McLennan.  :D Though the chorus certainly retains the Shake 'Em On Down chorus. I'd definitely say adaptation, almost a lounge version, but that should qualify it as new, no? Bill's playing electric guitar, not something you hear every day. The version I have appears on Big Bill Broonzy Part 2 1937-40 on JSP, not sure if it's the same as the one you refer to.
