[Bull City] Red pulled his hat down over his eyes and said to her, "Cora Mae [Fuller's wife], I didn't get but one letter from you when I was in Virginia." To which [Blind Boy] Fuller replied, "Well, that was one too many." - Bull City Red, from an article about Richard Trice by David Menconi in the Raleigh [NC] News and Observer, 24Jun98
Marie Knight, who sang with Sister Rosetta Tharpe, has come out with a killer tribute album to Reverend Davis. A great place to check it out is her myspace site:
Great stuff! Reading the small print on the album cover shown, is Larry Campbell the featured guitarist? I have not heard of him, but whoever he is, he sure sounds good.
(Perhaps he's Weenie's love child...)

Marie Knight is one of my favourite soul singers ever! This CD shared with Judy Clay is a classic:
Love that 'Comes the Night', but the greatest killer track here is 'Say It Again'. Hear it and be moved. Looking forward to hear the new album. Gotta check out the MySpace later today!
Larry Campbell was the guitarist in Dylan's band on the neverending tour for several years. He's been around, played with a lot of big-name folks. Tasty player as I recall.
Apparently, the idea was Larry Campell's. Mrs. Knight had never heard of Rev. Davis before. The album is great. An old friend, Dave Keyes toured a bit with her as her pianist. If you go to his site: http://www.davekeyes.com/,
click on the video page, and scroll down to the one with Marie Knight. It's pretty good. The other videos aren't bad either. Dave kills it.
