My first Weenie Video attempt. Salty Dog

Salty Dog - The High Steppin' Muskrats (Papa Charlie Jackson via Freddie Keppard)

Hi all, I had a fun jam with two mates today and another videoed our first go at "Salty Dog" on my Iphone and I didn't mind the result, we made a couple of little mistakes but we were not aiming to make a video for youtube but the vibe came across well enough for me to want to put it up anyway. It was the first and last take but we had a ball doing it and I think that comes across in the video and I hope you guys like our "Australianized" version, basically the lads followed me and learned the tune as we went.
Introducing The High Steppin' Muskrats, with myself on Guitar and vocals, Peter Healy on harmonica and some vocal backing with Nick Kongas on washboard.
                  Greg Luland.

Thanks very much Professor, I have admired your videos ever since I first discovered them a couple years back so it means a lot to me. I would love to get Peter Healy back over to do some more, he does gigs where he plays a lot of blues but of the much more contemporary stuff but he really loved doing this older stuff and the chance to blow some harp, he is a very good singer and funny as hell, usually I have another mate to play some harp with me and Nick. Nick has only been playing washboard about 3 weeks as he is usually a guitarist, not bad for a bloke in his 70's eh.

Yes it was a fun time for sure, and a lot of that has to do with Healy the Salty Dog, man that bloke is a funny bugger, always has me in stitches. Thank you mate, glad you liked it :)

It's $400 CORT which I think is an Australian made guitar and it was brand I was not keen on till I found that largish parlour, I played it and then realized that everyone i knew who had a CORT wasn't much good at looking after their guitars. It's cheap but it plays well and records pretty well too. Thank you for the kind words, coming from a fellow Weenie is like praise from the top I think, cheers Mike I might stick up another video soon of an Elvis tune, Just Because (not sure who wrote it) which i have started working on in a raggy Piedmont blues style and I have up on youtube, but this Salty Dog sounded pretty good to me and it has my buddies playin on it.

I will have to do a whole lot of videos to get near the amount you have up here Laura of which many are really great so I am very glad I could repay you some of the pleasure you have already given me and I have to admit that I have already stolen a couple of riffs from you :) Looking forward to your next video.

There is just so much love here at Weenie, we should be running the world :)

That's a lot of fun, ArthurB. Carry on!
I look forward to hearing Just Because - I've been playing that the last few months via Elvis and Nelstone's Hawaiians (1928) though it may have been written by The Shelton Brothers

I'm also looking forward to hearing"Just Because", just because I've also been working on it lately. :) I think I read speculation that the Sheltons just threw their name on the track after the fact but who knows.

That's quite a debut, Greg -- very nice singing and playing from you, and I enjoyed your fellow muskrats' contributions, as well.
