Title: Ragtime in Milano
Post by: Mr.OMuck on April 16, 2013, 02:46:40 PM
Ever wonder how someone from, oh I don't know, maybe Milan Italy would sound playing and singing Blind Blake's Wabash Rag? Now admittedly my Italian pronunciation is nothing to brag about, but....well here...have a listen >:D
Also notice the innocent use of offensive visual support materials. This, I suppose, is intended to lend "authenticity" to the performance, which it does...by making it seem even more authentically nuts than it already is

Ha! Yeah I saw that one earlier this afternoon. I was watching videos to hear the A&L parlors. I stumbled across this one and said wtf? By visually offensive, I'm assuming you mean the tele's?  >:D

They do sound nice! I'm particularly interested in the cedar tops.  Did you ever get one Mr. O? I haven't had the chance to play one yet.

I never bought one but I've played a few and have been very impressed as I wrote somewhere here in the Weenie environment. I think they're great.

I have the same A&L Ami that is in the video (actually has a wood rosette vs. the newer stick-on rosette).  I got it used off of Craigslist with a real nice A&L gigbag for $120!  I also scored a new black one with a gig bag (had a hair line top crack which I easily repaired) off of eBay for $55!  They are both great sounding and playing guitars.  I can't believe how good they are for the $$!  The only minor complaint I had was that the new one came sporting a stupid stick-on rubber rosette.  The rosette was easily removed with a hair dryer though, and now I think it looks great!

If you are thinking of getting one of these beware that there are a couple models that sport a laminate top.  I think that they are the Ami Almond, and Ami Cherry.

Here's a not so great pic that I snapped right after I picked up the second one:
