Here's a book the looks to be pretty interesting, unfortunately, it comes at a high price. Has anyone read this?

I'm hopeful that either that the birthday bunny or he with white beard and red cloak is gonna bring me this, both writers are assiduous researchers in this field.

Thanks for the tip, SpikeDriver. One of the libraries in the area has it, so I'm going to check it out (along with Lynn Abbott and Doug Seroff's Out of Sight which is also in their holdings). Thanks again for pointing it out to us.

Just a reminder that if folks use the Amazon link at the bottom of the Weenie Juke page, instead of the link above, a small donation goes to support Weenie Campbell. Folks might keep that in mind while doing their Xmas shopping, too.
All for now,

Has anyone succeeded in getting a look at this book?

Rivers:
I checked both Out of Sight and Ragged But Right out of the UW library a couple of months ago so I could browse through them and try to form some kind of opinion--I'm just too backed up to read anything new cover to cover for the forseeable future. Both impressed me as solid scholarship. When B&N had a 40% off web coupon a ways back, I treated myself to Ragged But Right. We need the equivalent of NetFlix for the book world.

Thanks Stuart, I'll include it in my next book buying spree.

For the historically inclined, just a note to say that Abbott & Seroff's Out of Sight: The Rise of African American Popular Music, 1889-1895 is now available in paperback, making the dramatic price tag rather less dramatic at around $40, $36 at amazon. Ragged but Right is still only in hardcover it seems. I have just started the latter (restarted actually) but can say it's certainly a beautiful tome, a large format hardcover copiously illustrated, not just a high-priced academic press book.

Both are HIGHLY recommended.

Just got it in the mail yesterday, and what a beautiful book! Great paper for the pages, lots of photos, etc., and I can hardly wait to begin reading. I'm in the middle of a Guralnick book now, but I have bumped Ragged But Right to the top of the reading list, so it will be the next book I read. I will come back and post a review when I finish.

Thanks for the tips! Both are available in the University library.
Will be making a trip.
