Ah, swing, well we used to call it syncopation - then they called it ragtime, then blues - then jazz. Now, it's swing. Ha! Ha! White folks yo'all sho is a mess. Ha! Ha! Swing! - Louis Armstrong, asked by host Bing Crosby to explain swing on a national radio program

TAB HUNT; FRED McDowell's "You Gotta Move
« on: April 17, 2016, 10:46:26 PM »
My guitar instructor was helping me jumpstart my slide playing, and we working off of his playing.

I''d like to have a tab of what Fred McDowell is actually playing.

It could be a tab that you have, or a reference to a book that your familiar with that has the song in it.

As I was in the process of ordering the Bottleneck Blues Guitar DVD I also noticed a book of Fred McDowell transcriptions:

I have that book - I learned the song initially from Stefan Grossman. I think the book is fairly accurate to Fred's rendition and has the melody on the bass notes portion tabbed out as well, which is important IMHO to learn to do.

There is a transcription of Fred McDowell's "You Gotta Move" in this months Acoustic Guitar Magazine. I don't know if that is available where you live.

Wow, crazy ... the new issue just came, I haven't even read it yet.

I got the Grossman DVD, which has a good tab of the song and have been working on learning that this week.  This seems to be a pretty simple song to play (which is good because I'm not a very good player).

Time to go practice some more!

What issue are you looking at?  I have June issue that just came, and the May issue and I don't see it in either of them...
