As far as singing goes, I wanted to do something new and have a style that wasn't too common. I was inspired by the records of Jimmie Rodgers, a white singer of that time. He was called the 'yodeling singer' because he would sing some parts in a head voice, like the Swiss yodelers. I took that idea and adapted it to my own abilities. I couln't do no yodelin' so I turned to howlin'. And it's done me just fine - Howlin' Wolf

Hi Stefan,
Thanks very much for letting us know about the additions to your web site, and especially the Mamlish discography and the discography of Pete Franklin.  I feel a lot of respect and affection for Don Kent's Mamlish Records--it was a tremendous re-issue label, something like Origin Jazz Library but even more difficult to find in stores.  Don gets big points from me for re-issuing a lot of Freddie Spruell and being the first to get out Lane Hardin's songs.  The discography on Pete Franklin is tragically short.
All best,
Johnm
