Title: Blind Boy Fuller: His Life, Recording Sessions, and Welfare Records
Post by: JasO on December 20, 2011, 04:48:15 PM
Decades ago, a fellow blues lover sent me a copy of Fulton Allen?s welfare records and other official paperwork from the 1930s and very early 1940s. I?ve just posted an 8000-word chronological account of the life of Fulton Allen, a.k.a. Blind Boy Fuller, that covers all of his sessions. This account also quotes extensively from the documents written by government officials, student social workers, physicians, etc. They reveal a life fraught with poverty, ill health, and unhappiness with management and, to a lesser extent, record companies. If you?re interested, here?s a link: http://jasobrecht.com/blind-boy-fuller-life-recording-sessions-welfare-records/  (http://jasobrecht.com/blind-boy-fuller-life-recording-sessions-welfare-records/)

And Happy Holidays to all!

Thanks, Jas. It looks top drawer as usual. I have it bookmarked and look forward to reading it later tonight.

And for those who may have missed it, here's the link to the North Carolina Public Radio program of a few years back:

Right you are, Peter. There are two JSP box sets. Volume 2 also contains cuts by other musicians, in addition to those by Blind Boy Fuller.

Another great article. I've just got the JSP vol.2 set so it's fascinating to read what was going on for Fuller at the time.
