http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/01/11/CMK8TOSI5.DTL Hey Andrew,
That is an interesting article. I think the New Lost City Ramblers would chuckle at the reference to them as a bluegrass band. They would also acknowledge that there is a direct lineage from the music they chose to play to bluegrass. It looks like Chris S. has some neat projects in store for the CAS (CD Acquisition Syndrome) afflicted among us. Thanks for the heads up, Rob Great article. Seeing the photos I now realize I spoke to Chris at Downhome Records in 1998. I was looking at two Robert Pete Williams CDs wondering which one to get. He was, I now realize, the gentleman on the checkout and I said I didn't know RPW's stuff but had just done some workshops with Alvin Hart and he'd turned me onto him. Chris told me he thought I'd like volume 1 better, so I bought it.
The photos are excellent. One is miscaptioned, says it's Chris with Lightnin' but actually he looks awfully like Fred McDowell - http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object/article?o=2&f=/c/a/2008/01/11/CMK8TOSI5.DTL Great article. And these are classics too: ![]() ![]() http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-reviews/A2MIHMT80UU57W/ref=cm_pdp_profile_reviews?ie=UTF8&sort%5Fby=MostRecentReview ![]() - Jostein There was a feature article about Chris Strachwitz in yesterdays Chronicle Magazine insert.
Ironically my wife turned to me and pointed to Chris on the cover and asked if I had heard of him, I pointed to the Arhoolie t-shirt I was wearing and replied "his company". Here is the link to the article, Music Man. Check out the photos.
