Bluesland DVD - question about the Son House footage
« on: March 19, 2008, 04:06:16 PM »
Hello,

There is that great film excerpt of Son House playing Preachin' The Blues(?) in the Bluesland - a portrait in american music DVD.

I'm stuck by his commitement in that particular footage, it's like watching him playing in the '30s.

I'd like to find the complete footage of it, has it been released on DVD?

I don't know where you can find the complete clip of this great footage of Son House, but here is some more information on the Bluesland DVD:

The complete footage (unfortunately only two guitar songs - Preachin' and Death Letter, and the a-capella John The Revelator and I Want To Live So God Can Use Me) appears on the "Son House & Bukka White - Masters of the Country Blues" video:

The Bukka White footage which is included is excellent as well.

The four Son House numbers are on youtube:

Unless I'm mistaken this footage is from 1969. Great stuff, but unfortunately nothing like what Son sounded like in 1930...

Thanks to both of you for the informations and heads-up.

I agree that he's not really sounds like on his '30 recordings... so let say he sounds like on his '40s recordings  :)

That particular footage will change my view on his latter material.
