Blues & Booze In The Bury Sat 14 June 2008: Programme
This event combines a blues festival, a real ale festival and a family fun day, raising funds for charities. It is located open-air in The Bury, at the heart of the beautiful old town of Odiham, Hampshire, United Kingdom. The music starts at 12 noon and finishes at 6 pm.
Like last year, the emphasis will be on acoustic blues.. The programme is;

Taking inspiration from their American roots and the country?s rich musical heritage, the Spikedrivers? songwriting, vocal harmonies and unique instrumentation make their sound fresh and exciting.
The atmosphere created by the band takes you on a journey, from southern juke joints and lazy front porches to the huge open spaces of dust bowls and railroad tracks disappearing into the distance.

This is an exciting new band comprising five young men from Manchester of extraordinary talent for playing the blues with no frills?.just loads of swing. Here?s how they describe their evolution?.
?We all started by playing blues in a swamp then we ascended to a garage, exhausted by dodging kamikaze asbestos riddled slugs we played blues in a room, then we played blues in a bar, then we played blues in another room and didn't come out for a bit, then we played blues in a small pub, then we played music in a fancy pub, then in a tiny pub, then we played the blues because god rang up Rik and told him something horrendous, then we played blues up a tree, then we played blues outside, now we play blues where ever we fall with many a beautiful person. Our collective age is 94?
Jim Crawford
Jim Crawford is something of a blues enigma. Originally from Lancashire he now resides in Appledore on the North Devon coast.
A shy and retiring man who readily admits that recording studios fill him with dread and that he?d rather go fishing with his dog for company, has, none the less, toured much of Europe and the U.S.A captivating audiences with his intimate blues style.
Softly spoken, Jim totally surprises his audience when he breaks into a number with a resonant, barrelhouse blues vocal and for years has been revered among professional musicians as a consummate finger picker and slide guitarist.
He first came to the attention of a wider blues audience when invited to record a session for the BBC?s Paul Jones Show. When quizzed by Mr. Jones about recent concert work we glimpsed the sense of humour that lights up Jims live shows when he wryly replied, ?I've just played at the Appledore school fete where I was second in the popularity stakes to a bouncy castle !?
Pete Harris & Hugh Budden
Pete Harris has been active on the South Coast blues scene for nearly thirty years. With The Bob Pearce Blues Band he gigged extensively in the UK and Europe, recording a live album on the prestigious Blue Horizon label. He has subsequently led various incarn ations of The Pete Harris Blues Band, recognized as one of the leading blues bands on the South Coast.
The versatility and sheer brilliance of Hugh Budden?s harp playing has given him a reputation as one of the South?s best harmonica players. His career has spanned across the spectrum of both music and continents and he has developed a highly individual style of playing which lends itself to the blues.
Bob Long
Bob Long is a British blues singer, guitarist and harmonica player specializing in "the old stuff". Most of what he plays is his interpretations of pre-world war II blues, jug band and ragtime material particularly music from the Mississippi Delta, where he is a frequent visitor. He has performed at The Juke Joint Festival in Clarksdale, The Tommy Johnson Blues Festival in Crystal Springs and the legendary Ground Zero Blues Club. Jointly with Keith Miller, he has recently released a new album ? I Wonder To Myself?.
