Prewar harp- Walter Horton/1939
« on: May 25, 2010, 10:53:46 AM »
Figured this would get lost in the prewar harp thread, so posting a new topic. Here are a couple nice recordings of Walter Horton accompanying Little Buddy Doyle. On the first one, Doyle is singing/playing a song very similar to Shake Em on Down. Horton is playing first position harp.  On the second, Horton plays some great second position boogie harp. These were Recorded in 1939 when both were playing in Memphis before Horton went to Chicago.

I'm sure elsewhere there's been a discussion of Memphis Willie B's 1960s reworking of Slick Capers (as Funny Capers) in respect of how he must have learnt the song from Doyle since the version recorded by Doyle was never released.....not, that is, until Document put it out in the 1990s.
