For decades, practically every big circus on the road had a black band and minstrel company attached to its sideshow, performing on the streets and inside the sideshow tent before people of all races, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and from the southern reaches of Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. During the 1910s, these companies constituted a significant pathway for the dissemination of ragtime, blues, and jazz." - Lynn Abbott and Doug Seroff, Ragged But Right: Black Traveling Shows, "Coon Songs", And The Dark Pathway To Blues And Jazz

It looks now it's on the mainland as though interest is greatly increased, no doubt as costs have decreased, inverse law of the frets I imagine and will become a fixture. GR... we thought you were bringing the woad It's out of the bag! Richard will be playing Big Woad Blues. Ha ha Is that a blues?? That reminds me, I must iron my best sabre-tooth tiger skin jacket and clean the mammoth dung off my furry boots. And where did I put that one-string guitar made from a badger's skull?? (It's a Gnashional). Big Woad Blues, very good and one of my favorites toooo. I was just debating what to bring over, I think the tricone should be loudest
Anybody in Bristle next week, I think (!) I'm doing a jazz, well I'm certainly flying over anyway Things are coming together! Bob Long has now booked a table for 12 at the Imperial China for 7.00pm on the Friday evening.
The restaurant is very close to the Crown. Richard, can you let us know what time we have the room from on Friday as we could assemble there first? The function room is from 6pm Friday through till midnight on Saturday night............ now in the best traditions of being a hotel resident I am working under the assumption that the bar will stay open as long as needed and so the fuction will remain in use
I know the room is in use for the Friday afternoon but I was given the impression it could well be available late afternoon on. So glad to hear "the fuction will remain in use", Richard... Exactly what kind of hotel is this???
How can you function without a fuction room, that is the question.
It's yer....................... and it's all we could get so don't complain (yet) http://www.crownhotel-lyndhurst.co.uk/default.aspx dj
I followed the link, and was starting to feel pretty sorry for all of you, picturing you crawling around on hands and knees in that function room. Then I realized the height was 3 meters, not 3 feet!

Oh you colonials don't realise how advanced we are over here in the mother country. Actually my wife was just commenting this morning that although our kids were brought up with the metric system, they still talk about people being "over 6 foot tall", weighing "10 stones" and giving lengths in inches. Of course we kept miles and pints, so the whole metric conversion was the usual British half-hearted effort. "1.57 metres, eyes of blue" just doesn't work somehow either. kaarthuul

Does anybody knows if this weekend's gonna happen this year ? Keep on bluesin' . Take care. Leo.

Because of the "crunch" we have moved the euro weenie gathering from Guernsey to the mainland this year to reduce costs. It takes place on 3/4th April at the Crown Hotel in Lyndhurst, in the New Forest. Check out here for more information. http://weeniecampbell.com/yabbse/index.php?amp;Itemid=128&topic=5404.0 Please feel welcome to come along, if you have any other questions, either post them on the thread for the weekend or, PM myself or Richard.
