We can hardly get our breath, taxed and schooled and preached to death. Tell me how can a poor man stand such times and live? - Blind Alfred Reed, 1929
Having finally figured out how to upload audio to my blog, IU went into my closet and came up with some nice things, starting with an 18-minute segment from an old radio show of mine. WHAT-FM, Philadelphia - April 10, 1960. There is more to come from this show, but you can start with this: stomp-off.blogspot.com
It's a privilege to get to hear this stuff - puts you right back into the room and time in which it was recorded. Thanks for making it available. Your blog is bookmarked!
And I'll pile on, it was a great 18 minutes of radio. Reading your intro, the mention of Lonnie working as a janitor in a hospital was like a slap in the face. Him and Big Bill and who knows how many others . . .
What other gems might you have that you can share with us?
wow, what a treasures. would you have any interest in making FLAC files of these tapes and uploading them to a bootleg site? I'm sure that at this site (where some rare MJ Hurt, Skip James, Mcdowell, RG Davis recordings has been put up in the past and still can be downloaded) music lovers are waiting for this stuff.
for anybody; make an account, search in the blues section like this; "skip james" and find rare blues recordings.
I will second Alex's comments - an uplifiting performance, by a great singer and player! We are lucky to be able to listen to this and other recordings being made available on Chris's blog site. What a treasure trove! I see several other segments that I'll want to explore, including the late, fabulous Susannah McCorkle.
